British Airways London Eye reaches 25 million visitors

25 million visitors, 1 iconic image

In March 2007, the British Airways London Eye will reach a major milestone in its history: 25 million visitors. To mark this outstanding achievement, the British Airways London Eye is inviting all visitors to join in the celebrations and add their treasured memories of London’s most iconic landmark to a dedicated online gallery. From 14 March, visitors to www.londoneye.com/photography will be able to upload their photos of and from, the British Airways London Eye.

An expert panel will select the 12 finalists who will receive exclusive British Airways London Eye prizes. The photographer deemed to be the overall winner will receive a year-long pass to all Tussauds group attractions, a host of photography equipment, exposure in the press and will be framed on permanent display at the British Airways London Eye ticket office, inside County Hall.

To recognise the dramatic journey the British Airways London Eye has taken to become one of the nation’s favourite icons, all submitted pictures will come together to make up one giant mosaic of this unique and revolutionary landmark.

David Sharpe, Managing Director of the British Airways London Eye, comments: "I am very proud that the British Airways London Eye has achieved such an incredible milestone in such a short space of time. We are looking forward to seeing all the fantastic memories that we have been able to give our visitors over the last 7 years."

Conceived in 1994, the British Airways London Eye opened in time for the millennium celebrations. Since then, the world’s tallest observation wheel has provided breath taking views for over 3.5 million visitors a year. As well as becoming an internationally-recognised symbol for the capital, it is consistently the most popular paid-for visitor attraction in the UK.

Whether it’s panoramic views of the dramatic capital city skyline, scenes of the sun setting behind the capsules, or close up shots of the spoke cables so critical to the construction of the modern icon, everyone’s personal visual interpretation of the famous landmark is welcomed as it celebrates 25 million visitors.
