Leaf, by Peter:
How DPNow Pictures of the Day are selected Peter, from Guernsey, is a very regular poster on the DPNow forum, as much for his interest in Ferrari and Grand Prix racing, on the non-photo board, as for his photography interests. Have a look closely at his forum avatar image - all the people in the picture are him, but that's another story!
Today's DPNow Picture of the day from Peter is an almost luminous study of a leaf. Peter explains: "It's selective colour, that I'd seen in the forum and in magazines, and thought I'd like to try it myself.
"I took it on the 8th of Dec in a cobbled lane near a local marina in Guernsey. My wife thought I was barking mad for parking her car in the lane and getting my tripod out with people going past trying to see what I was doing.
"I selected the leaf with the magnetic lasso tool in Photoshop, inversed it, then changed the background to black and white. Then boosted the colours in the leaf to make it stand out. Nothing too fancy, but I liked the effect.

This picture is that result of some evolution after an earlier version was aired on the
forum and serves as an excellent example to how the forum can be a great resource for ideas and improvements.
"I'm a rank amateur
(Peter, you're being too modest! -Ed), who doesn't get out enough with his camera. The reason I got into photography was to cover my main passion of formula one racing, and local motor sports, of which there is not much on a small island like Guernsey."
