Vote for November's Picture of the Month

Bart Aldrich's contribution to the DPNow Picture of the Day is slightly unusual in that the picture wasn't taken using a digital camera. But, of course, it had to cross into the digital domain to find its way into Bart's DPNow gallery

Bart explains: "This was taken back in 1998 when I had the good fortune to visit the Rajasthan region of India. I went in the fall to take in the Pushkar Camel Fair and spent three weeks traversing the region. I found this worn and majestic gentleman in a tiny Bishnoi village south of Jaiselmer."

The conversion from 35mm film looks great in this picture, unlike a lot of scanned film results I have seen elsewhere. The detail in the turban and the man's beard, even at screen resolution, is very good. His expression is timeless and one is prompted to wonder just what he's thinking about.

Bart used a Nikon F801s, which he still has. He says his hefty Nikon 80-200 f/2.8 AFD used was a handful considering that he was suffering from a bad bout of tennis elbow at the time! Fuji Provia 100 film was used.

Bart grew up in southern California. After living in Hawaii for 15 years he moved to Hong Kong in 1992. It was during the four years that he lived in Hong Kong and visited more than a dozen southeast Asian countries, rekindling his passion for photography along the way. There is an inspirational selection of Bart's work in his DPNow gallery and a lot more at his own excellent site, Oasis Galleries.

Are you up to the task of being selected for the DPNow POTD? All you need to do is exhibit your pictures on the free DPNow photo gallery and maybe we'll be in touch!
