Bart Aldrich specialises in rather magical black an white images that appear to borrow some tonality from infra red photography. In this particular shot, we're informed that the scene is in California farm country. The horses appear contented in a meadow with a large old tree in the background. But everything is glowing and the foliage is much lighter in tone than the eye expects, while the sky is surprisingly dark. The overall presentation is one of a dream-like state. I'd be fascinated to discover how Bart achieved the effect here.
