Wacom expands its Intuos3 pen tablet range

Release Issued by Wacom:

A3 Wide and A4 Oversize are added to the Intuos3 family

Wacom, the leading manufacturer of pen tablets and interactive pen displays, today launches the Intuos3 A3 Wide and Intuos3 A4 Oversize pen tablets primarily focussed on video editing, industrial design and CAD markets.

Replacing the Intuos2 A4 Oversize and A3 formats, two configurations of each pen tablet are available for Graphics and CAD users. For Graphics, the Intuos3 Grip Pen is included, while the CAD version offers the Intuos3 Lens Cursor with a moveable lens.

Intuos3 A3 Wide
As the largest pen tablet in the Intuos series and Wacom¹s second wide format offering, the Intuos3 A3 Wide is ideal for use with large widescreen displays, HDTV monitors and multi-monitor set-ups. It offers an active area of 12x19 inches (304.8 x 487.6mm) and provides a wide aspect ratio of 16:10.

This matches the dimensions of widescreen displays and provides additional drawing and working space for more precise work. The pen tablet is also more convenient when working in a multi-monitor set-up for distortion-free drawing and navigation.

The Intuos3 A3 Wide includes a transparent overlay for tracing artwork and a QuickPoint area for fast navigation. This is a small area on the tablet, which enables the user to navigate around the screen with smaller pen movements.

Intuos3 A4 Oversize
Offering workspace for all design and engineering requirements, the Intuos3 A4 Oversize offers an active area of 12x12² (304.8 x 304.8mm). It is aimed at the CAD customer working with special templates and graphic users who want to work both horizontally and vertically in A4 size.

The Intuos3 A4 Oversize also has a transparent overlay for holding originals or menu templates and a QuickPoint area for faster navigation.

Two configurations for Graphics and CAD users
The ¹DTP configurationŒ comes with an Intuos3 Grip Pen, which has an ergonomically designed rubberised waist to reduce the grip required by up to 40 per cent. This relieves stress on the arm muscles. The Grip Pen is equipped with a double side switch and an eraser. Both pen tip and eraser are pressure-sensitive and the pen comes with three changeable nibs standard, stroke and felt. The Stroke pen nib is able to convey the soft nuances of brushstrokes, while the felt pen nib provides more friction on the tablet for a more natural feeling when painting or drawing.

The ¹CAD configurationŒ includes an Intuos3 Lens Cursor instead of the Grip Pen. The Lens Cursor features five freely programmable buttons and a moveable lens, which swings through 50 degrees in both directions. This provides a clear line of sight for both left and right handed users when selecting from CAD menu templates or digitising originals. It also features optimal crosshair-to-body distance for an improved view of the whole area.

As with the Grip Pen, the Lens Cursor is battery-free and cordless and provides a resolution of 5,080 dpi for high precision.

Intuos3 family features
The Intuos3 A4 Oversize and Intuos3 A3 Wide offer the same superior features as the rest of the Intuos3 family. These include eight programmable ExpressKeys that are pre-configured with frequently used modifier keys, and two Touch Strips that act like a scroll bar to allow zooming and scrolling in various applications. Due to the 5,080 dpi resolution and 1,024 levels of pressure sensitivity in the Grip Pen tip and eraser, Intuos3 offers a highly accurate way of working. Each pen tablet is able to recognise the tilt angle of a Grip Pen of up to 60 degrees. Each input device also offers Tool ID. In supported applications, the tablet automatically recognises the relevant tool with its individual settings when the device is brought into contact with the tablet.

Intuos3 pens are fully compatible with the Cintiq 21UX Interactive Pen Display.

The new Intuos3 pen tablets will be available at the end of January 2006 from Computers Unlimited. The tablets have a USB connection and run on Windows 2000, XP or XP 64bit and MacOS X 10.2.8 or later.
