Panasonic Starts Launching Digital Consumer Electronics Products Using Its Advanced System LSIs for Integrated Platform
Tokyo, Japan - Panasonic, the leading brand for which Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd. is well known, announced today that the company launched an SD card movie camera, using Panasonic's advanced system LSIs for integrated platform for next-generation digital consumer electronics products.
"We expect the system LSI for integrated platform will expedite realization of the 'ubiquitous network society' where users can enjoy network connectivity among various portable and digital consumer electronics," said Dr. Susumu Koike, Matsushita’s Senior Managing director in charge of Technology, and President of Semiconductor Company.
Three types of basic system LSIs for the integrated platform have been developed to meet the needs of three areas of digital consumer electronics, such as portable AV equipment, mobile phones, and home AV equipment.
The system LSI for portable AV equipment can be used for processing recording data in various recording formats and media such as MPEG2 and MPEG 4, as well as SD cards and DVD discs, while balancing the competing goals of low power consumption and high performance. The first product that applied the system LSI is Panasonic’s SD card movie camera "SDR-S100," which started shipment to the world market this month.
The system LSI for mobile phones will allow viewing terrestrial one-segment digital TV broadcasts on NTT Docomo's mobile phone "P901iTV," which is developed by Panasonic and to be launched in Japan soon. The mobile phone is equipped with a one-segment digital TV tuner first in the industry.
The system LSI for home AV equipment, including digital TVs, DVD recorders and others, will realize various functions such as two-channel decoding, H264 decoding, and back-end for HDTV MPEG2 data.
Working with high-speed memory, the system LSI provides high-performance and high-quality moving picture.
Panasonic has implemented the following technologies to the system LSIs:
1. The Software platform that can be shared and re-used.
2. The Hardware platform with the new multimedia processor in the heart.
3. High quality AV performance, low power consumption, real time processing, secure mechanism.
The system LSIs offer customer advantages leading to the benefits of manufacturers:
1. Improvements in software development efficiency leading to shorter time for development and enhanced software quality.
2. Creation of new values derived from digital consumer electronics combining multiple features.
3. Flexible support for application requirements through a scalable architecture and multiple codec technologies.
