One Dress

Launching 15th September Celebrated photographer, publisher and most recently film director, Rankin, is set to re-launch his website with his longest running project, One Dress, a personal response to working within the fashion industry and portrait imagery.

One Dress brings together an eclectic group of personalities, models and celebrities from different disciplines and backgrounds, all of whom project their personality and individuality through the wearing of the same iconic Gucci dress. The project is also a tribute to many of the women that have influenced and inspired Rankin over the years, and participants include Daphne Selfe, Jodie Kidd, Marianne Faithful, Nicole and Natalie Appleton, and Carmen Consoli.

“The Gucci dress is a potent symbol of a strong woman and the single defining garment of the early twenty first century” comments Rankin “I felt this dress typified the era in the way a Chanel Suit encapsulated the zeitgeist of the 1960’s. Chosen by stylist Miranda Robson the dress is a classic cut yet is not easy to wear and I was amazed as each model brought something so distinct to it”.

Each subject chose how to wear the dress and pose for the shot, giving every image a very different mood, and One Dress is a testament to the strength of diversity of both the photographer at work and his subjects. Giving the viewer an insight into the personal style and character of some of the decade’s most famous women, Rankin playfully highlights how fashion influences people and people influence fashion.
