Rankin snap’s up chance to judge Mencap photo competition
Iconic British portrait and fashion photographer, Rankin, is the latest addition to the judging panel of Mencap’s Snap! photography competition. Rankin joins an already impressive list of judges, including Alex Proud, founder of Proud Galleries in London and Eamonn McCabe, former picture editor of the Guardian, who will decide the winning pictures in this year’s competition.
Rankin comments, “Self-expression through photography can be a great way to get a real insight into someone’s life. Having seen Snap!’s previous winning pictures, I am really looking forward to being involved in the judging.”
Snap! is Mencap’s annual photo and story competition which was launched in 2003. The competition showcases the talents of people with a learning disability through photographs and inspiring stories to increase understanding of learning disability by those closest to it. The photographs are either taken by or feature someone with a learning disability and are accompanied by a short descriptive story.
The winners will be announced in May and will be invited to attend a glittering awards ceremony in London where they will rub shoulders with some of Mencap’s celebrity supporters. Winners will receive a fantastic digital camera from Fujifilm and have their photos displayed on Mencap’s website and then on tour at venues across the UK. Snap! is supported by The Sorrell Foundation.
