Canon launches three new multi-media projectors

Canon, leader in photographic and imaging technology, today announces three new additions to its range of multi media projectors: the LV-7225, LV-7220 and LV-5220. Each device benefits from Canon’s expertise and heritage in optical technology and features a Canon 1.6x zoom projection lens. The wide angle of the lens provides a large image when the projector is close to the screen and the powerful zoom allows for flexible placement of the projector. All devices deliver impressively bright and high-resolution images, with high contrast ratios for vivid colours:
• LV-7225 – 2,500 ANSI lumens, high resolution native XGA projection and a high contrast ratio of 350:1
• LV-7220 – 2,000 ANSI lumens, high resolution native XGA projection and a high contrast ratio of 350:1
• LV-5220 – 2,000 ANSI lumens, native SVGA projection and a high contrast ratio of 400:1
Each projector also incorporates a range of features to automatically maximize image quality and increase flexibility of use, including eight flexible image settings for optimal results in different lighting conditions. Both vertical and horizontal keystone correction prevent image distortion when the projector faces the screen at an angle. Progressive scan replication with interlaced video signals provides smoother movement and sharper text. Each projector weighs only 2.9 kg, has a footprint of hardly more than an A4 sheet, and features quiet operation with a 35-decibel quiet mode.
Flexible image settings for high quality presentations
The eight image settings ensure picture quality is always optimized – both data projection and video projection modes are selectable between four sub-modes. Data projection can be set to standard, Hi-Contrast (for sharper graphs and photographs), custom and blackboard modes. Video projection can be set to standard, cinema (designed for watching movies in darkened rooms), custom and blackboard modes. Custom modes for both data and video allow a range of settings (including gamma, or brightness) to be manually adjusted to tailor the image to a specific environment.
Auto Image Mode handles variable light conditions
For low light or darkened room conditions, areas in the projected image that are supposed to be jet-black can be tainted with light grey if the projector lamp is too bright. An Auto Image Mode automatically compensates for this effect by continuously measuring ambient light and adjusting lamp output accordingly. This results in perfectly balanced brightness – even in constantly changing conditions – without the need for manual adjustments.
Flexible placement
The 1.6x manual zoom provides the right image size at a wide range of throw distances. The wide angle of the lens ensures large image projection even when the projector is very close to the screen in small rooms – producing a 100” diagonal screen from a 100” distance. In a boardroom or meeting room presentation, this means the projector can sit on the edge of the table closest to the screen – light from the projector won’t disturb people around the table and cannot be interrupted with objects passing between it and the screen.
The vertical keystone adjustment uses the projectors’ new tilt sensors to automatically correct trapezoidal distortion when the projectors are angled up or down. The horizontal keystone adjustment also corrects distortion when the projector needs to face the screen at an angle from the side.
Progressive scanning for smooth, clean images
Image flickering often visible in conventional projectors is generally caused by a method of projection known as ‘Interlaced Scanning’. This process merges two fields to produce a single frame. The LV-7225, LV-7220 and LV-5220 all use progressive scanning, which draws the entire frame continuously from top to bottom. This greatly reduces flicker and produces smoother movement and cleaner diagonal lines, titles and sub-titles.
Quiet and comfortable
A quiet mode reduces fan noise from 39 dB to just 35 dB for exceptionally quiet operation in hushed settings. The linear fan control feature also helps create a comfortable viewing environment by automatically adjusting the fan system – fan voltage is calibrated with respect to room temperature, so fan noise is never in excess.
Customization and connectivity
All models can be customized to project a company logo whenever the projector is turned on. As well as adding impact to presentations, this feature is designed to discourage unauthorized use.
High quality presentations are assured with the projectors’ connectivity: flickering, blurred lines, ghost images and colouration problems with text display have been eliminated with a high-speed DVI-I Interface providing all-digital, zero conversion connection (compatible with HDCP). Component Video is supported for high definition projection of DVDs and HDTV.
The projectors feature Analogue In/Out connection and can be connected to an external monitor when presentations are on a desktop PC rather than a laptop. A SCART connector is also available as an optional extra to allow advanced multi-media connectivity.
Optional Multi Card Imager
An optional Multi Card Imager provides support for IEEE802.11b wireless networking, CF card for PC-less presentations, mouse control and remote control via wired or wireless LAN.
