17th September - 2001

Apple Expo is scheduled to take place from 26th September, in Paris. Lacie is a well known peripherals supplier for both Windows and Mac users. At the show it will launch a second new recordable DVD drive. A few days ago (click here) Lacie announced its new Firewire-driven DVD-R/RW drive. The second DVD drive announced conforms to the more established DVD RAM recordable format. It is also DVD-R read and write compatible.

DVD RAM is a re-writeable DVD format pioneered by Matsushita (Panasonic) and Hitachi, among others. It is well established and has a maximum per-side capacity of 4.7GB. Unfortunately, DVD RAM discs cannot be read by the majority of DVD ROM drives, apart from selected models made by Panasonic and Hitachi. DVD-R is a 4.7GB write-once format and is compatible with most modern DVD ROM drives.

The new Lacie drive range starts at £549 + VAT.
