Kingston technology, a major supplier of memory products, has announced a 64MB MultiMedia Card (MMC).
MMC is the forebear of the up and coming Secure Digital (SD) memory card platform. MMC cards can be used in devices with SD slots, but SD cards - which have commercial anti-piracy copy protection built in, can’t be used in devices with plain MMC slots. Digital cameras featuring SD/MMC memory card slots include models from Panasonic, Kodak, Kyocera and Minolta. One of the main attractions of MMC and SD cards is their tiny dimensions. They represent the smallest generally available memory card and are around the size of a postage stamp. Kingston already produces a 32MB MMC card and SD cards up to 128MB capacity. Dave Bennett, global product manager for digital and non-volatile memory of Kingston Technology, commented: "Today's announcement demonstrates Kingston Technology's commitment to providing the digital market with the latest in removable storage devices." He added: "The MultiMediaCard's small postage stamp size addresses the growing demand for products that provide increased storage capacities in a small portable form." The new 64MB MMC card is expected to sell for £90. www.kingston.com [Back to top of the page] |
