Budget Taiwanese digicam Premiers

Premier Image Technology Corporation, one of Taiwan’s biggest camera makers, has started shipping its latest model, the entry level DC-1310.

This model’s specification looks, at first glance, pretty comprehensive with a good sized TFT LCD screen (1.8 inches), optical finder, 8MB built in memory plus Compact Flash memory slot, auto white balance with preset override options, USB PC link support and MGI PhotoSuite III software bundled.

The camera only sports a 1.3 megapixel CCD sensor, delivering 1280x960 pixel pictures, though this remains the entry-level standard for ‘serious’ digicams. Further underlining its budget status is a non-zooming lens with just two manual focus settings (macro/normal). However, there is a 2x digital zoom option, while the integral flash has a red-eye reduction facility.

Premier has been making film cameras since 1983 and has already built up a stable of digicams, including a 2.3 megapixel DC-2000 flagship model launched at Photokina last year.

We’re currently waiting for news on pricing and UK availability of the DC-1310.
