Hewlett-Packard’s innovative thinking, first demonstrated in the ScanJet 7400- series of mid-high end flat bed scanners, has begun to filter down into 5 new more affordable ScanJet models.
HP’s dual CCD technology combines a conventional standard resolution CCD, for basic scanning duties and fast previewing, with a separate high resolution CCD that has a maximum optical resolution of 2400 pixels per inch (ppi). ScanJet 4400 models have a 300ppi lower resolution CCD and the 5400-series gets a sharper 600ppi primary CCD. The arrangement enables preview scans to be completed in as little as 4 seconds.
All, except the basic 4400c, have one-touch application function buttons, including a scan to CD option if you have a CD writer drive. The 4470c, 5470c (pictured above) and 5490c are supplied with film scanning adapters and the 5490c alone comes with a 7 page per minute automatic document feeder (ADF), also known as a cut sheet feeder (CSF).
