Official Nikon UK press release:

New 4.0 million pixel Nikon Coolpix 4500

With a resolution of 4.0 million pixels and a powerful 4x zoom, the Coolpix 4500 is the latest in a line of celebrated Coolpix 900 series cameras, re-invented in a more compact stylish Nikon swivel design. The Coolpix 4500 will be available from June with an SAP of £599.99.

The camera's core target users range from advanced amateurs to more experienced digital photographers.

The 4x Zoom-Nikkor lens, with its 7.85-32mm focal range (equivalent to 38-155mm in 35mm [135] camera format) delivers superb optical performance and 4.0 effective megapixels provide ultra high-definition images. Within the camera, Nikon's highly tuned image processing algorithms ensure results of remarkable colour, contrast and clarity.

The compact, lightweight Coolpix 4500 is a slim, ergonomic execution of the well-known Nikon swivel design that offers unprecedented flexibility and the possibility of shooting from virtually any angle. The new built-in speedlight pops up automatically when needed, but lies concealed and flush with the camera body when not in use. A simple flick-on/flick-off switch eases operation and the innovative 4-way thumb selector allows responsive operation combined whilst occupying minimal body surface space.

New for a 900 series camera, 16 built-in Scene Modes cater for classic settings such as sunsets and portraits, but also include multiple exposure and panorama-assist options. Also seen for the first time is a post-shoot perspective control, ideal for trimming up converging lines in architectural work or when the camera position was not optimal.

The macro focus range extends down to the now-standard 2 cm - standard for the 900 series and in keeping with the Coolpix 900 series heritage, the new 4500 model accepts a variety of existing series accessories, such as Wide-angle, Telephoto and Fisheye converters and the new MACRO COOL-LIGHT SL-1.

Nikon Coolpix 4500 Feature Highlights

Stylish, streamlined swivel body
The new Coolpix 4500 brings Nikon's famous swivel design right up to date. The rotating lens unit and firm grip enables the choice of shooting from virtually any angle - high, low or from the waist - to capture sharp, crisp Macro shots with minimal camera shake. The slim, stylish shape, ergonomically sculpted from tough, lightweight magnesium alloy, snugly fits the hand, offering instant access to all controls.

Powerful 4x zoom lens; 4.0-megapixel, high-definition quality
The high-performance Zoom-Nikkor lens with powerful 4x optical zoom and 7-blade iris diaphragm features two aspherical lens elements. It provides clear, high-contrast images with minimal distortion throughout the entire zoom range and a precision 4x digital zoom brings subjects in even closer. The Coolpix 4500's 4.0 effective megapixel sensor delivers ultra high-definition 2,272 x 1,704-pixel images - putting large-format printing within easy reach and enabling even cropped images to retain remarkably fine detail. Nikon's exclusive image processing algorithm delivers Total Image Quality with faithful color reproduction across the entire tonal range.

Impressive photo images made easier
The Coolpix 4500 puts superior quality photography within the grasp of every type of user. Offering 16 Scene Modes, it allows inexperienced photographers to produce a succession of impressive images, even with challenging lighting conditions and subject types. In low-light conditions, the auto pop-up Speedlight emerges automatically, ensuring bright, colorful pictures with negligible red-eye effect. White balance, saturation, sharpening and tone compensation place darkroom creativity at your fingertips, within the camera itself. The handy thumb-stick Multi Selector enables fast, comfortable operation when choosing functions from the menu in the LCD monitor.

Greater versatility with a growing range of accessories
The Coolpix 4500 is fully compatible with the growing line of Coolpix 900 series accessories, including Wide-angle, Telephoto and Fisheye Converter lenses that give pictures greater perspective - from landscapes to interiors and portraits. Versatility is further enhanced with the new MACRO COOL-LIGHT SL-1 accessory that evenly illuminates near-field subjects for detailed macro shots without obtrusive shadows.
