Fujifilm launches FinePix 602

30th January - 2002
By Ian Burley

The chunky-looking FinePix 602 Zoom looks like it means business. Like the FinePix 6900 that it is based on, this is an SLR-style digicam that uses a camcorder-style 180,000 pixel electronic viewfinder.

The 6x zoom has an 35mm film camera equivalent zooming range of 35-210mm. Fujifilm says the autofocus system has been considerably improved. The new third-generation 3.1 (native) SuperCCD chip used provides an extended ISO range and better low light performance. Continuous shooting can be exploited at up to 5 frames per second. Mimicking the Olympus E-10/E-20, now both SmartMedia and Compact Flash (including Type II and Microdrive cards) are supported.

New features include:

  • New 3rd Generation Super CCD sensor and advanced LSI algorithm (3.1 million effective pixels) producing 6.03 million recorded pixels (2,832 x 2,128)
  • High ISO values (up to 1600)*
  • New high-resolution electronic viewfinder with dioptre adjustment
  • Fastest autofocus in class
  • Dual media slots for SmartMedia and Compactflash type II (IBM Microdrive compatible)
  • New 1cm Super Macro setting
  • Higher quality VGA movie capture at 30 frames per second with sound
  • New design two-tone magnesium alloy body for better handling and easier access to controls
  • High-speed shooting at up to 5 frames per second
  • Multi, spot and average metering patterns
  • Powerful built-in flash
  • New easy-to-use Graphical User Interface
  • *800 and 1600 ISO at 1280x960 resolution only

The FinePix S602 Zoom should ship in June and is expected to have a list price of under £800 inc.VAT
