Rollei-branded digicam

Our friends on the Dutch site, Let’s go Digital (click here) reported yesterday that 4 megapixel digicam with the historically famous Rollei badge has been launched.

Let’s go Digital notes that the new Rollei D41 looks remarkably similar to the Jenoptik JD 4100 Z3. For the record, the new Rollei has a 3X optical zoom, though the D-Apogon lens is a bit dark at f/3.4/3.6. Compact Flash Type I cards are supported and there is a USB interface as well.

Those with memories longer than they generally care to measure will recall the era of the Rolleiflex twin lens reflex (TLR) camera that was common in post war years and remained a popular camera until the early 80s. More recent 35mm Rollei cameras failed to achieve much commercial success, despite an innovative attempt at an electronic 35mm SLR with interchangeable film backs.

For more details, click here to see the Let’s go Digital story, though be warned - it’s in Dutch! Some other sections of the site do have content in English.
