7th - 10th November 2012 Now in its 4th year Shepton Mallett Digital Arts Festival is a prominent event for the digital & creative industry in the South West. The festival runs over 4 days from Wed 7th– Sat 10th November showcasing new film, photography and performance with daytime exhibitions and evening entertainment program. The event is held at a designer emporium and gardens called KilverCourt, designed and created by Roger Saul, the founder of Mulberry.
The festival connects those already working in digital arts (including TV, Film, design, music, performance), with the next generation of talent. The festival showcases screenings, informal lectures, art installations, workshops, photographic exhibitions, interactive live painting, music and comedy over the 4 days with an awards ceremony on the final evening, hosted by children's TV andCool Stuff Collectivepresenter Sy Thomas .
The program of entertainment and exhibitions includes;
Adamski presents Neo Waltz DJ set, photography from Dominic Greensmith, drummer from the band Reef,Fosters Edinburgh Comedy Awards nominated comedian David Trent,stand-up comedy from Bristol born Casualty & Hollyoaks actor James Redmond,live art and music from Cate Ferris,Poster Art exhibition from Olympic artist Day Bowman; video installation from Mario Cavalli; animated theatre from Kid Carpetand Aardman Animation's Merlin Crossinghamreveals Aardman's best bits.
The festival is run by Dominic Weston of Icon Films,local entrepreneur Claire Sully and theatre producer Peter Wild. It's an inspirational event for young people in the South West that has changed thelife of many of its participants.Each year the festival holds a competition to give emerging talent the opportunity to interact with experts from the world of film and TV by presenting their work to be judged for a place in the final night awards ceremony. Competition prizes this year include the opportunity to work on locations with Icon Films. Running throughout Friday and Saturday DigiKids is a daytime program of interactive fun workshops for kids including; Animation model making, make and star in your own film,pinhole photography with Justin Quinnell and a rock n roll musical for kids, from Kid Carpet & The Noisy Animals. This lively and entertaining childrens show blends theatre and comedy with animation and live music.
Tickets for each workshop or evening event costs ?5 (?2.50 for children) and includes free entry to exhibitions.
