Sony Alpha NEX-5n sample images
by Ian Burley

Sample images from the NEX-5n

The updated Sony Alpha NEX-5 is identified by its 'n' designation

Below is our sample image gallery for the new Sony Alpha NEX-5n. The camera used was a pre-production example, but Sony were confident enough to let us publish full resolution samples. In theory, the NEX-5n could produce better quality images than the Alpha A-77 SLT, A-65 SLT, and the NEX-7, which were also announced. That's because the 5n has the proven 16MP sensor. While the others have the new 24MP sensor, with a smaller pixel pitch to accommodate more pixels in the same area, logic suggests that the 16MP sensor is less compromised, especially at higher ISO sensitivities. The NEX-5n also doesn't have to sacrifice 30% of its light to a semi-silvered mirror like the A-77 and the A-65.

But what really counts is what you think. So please peruse the samples below and let us know. There are both RAW and JPEG samples for you to download and none have been modified in any way.

To view a JPEG just click on a thumbnail below or right-click and download the target. To download the RAW file just click on the link associated with each. Not all the samples below include a RAW file. As of today there aren't any mainstream RAW converters compatible with the RAW files, but these will start to appear in due course.

As usual, please be aware that some of these files are very large - between 4MB and 25MB each.

We always look forward to your feedback - either email us at [email protected], or via our discussion forum.
