London (May, 2004) – LaCie, a leading producer of storage devices for the content development industry, announced that it will ship its LaCie d2 DL DVD±RW Drives with new double layer DVD recording technology beginning June 2004. This new technology gives users almost twice the capacity of current recordable DVDs on a single-sided disc. LaCie’s new drives also feature the fastest speeds available — 8x DVD±R and 4x DVD±RW — for high-speed, dual-format recording.
Double capacity DVD With the LaCie d2 DL DVD±RW Drive, users can store and archive as much as four hours of high-quality DVD video, up to 16 hours of VHS video or up to 8.5GBof data, music or photos. LaCie’s new double layer drive allows a full-length DVD movie to be stored at its original quality without compression — ideal for backing up and archiving personal DVD movies*. Using the same technology as Holywood film studios, this drive creates video DVDs that are compatible with standard DVD players. “Double layer technology allows you to increase the video bit rate to create flawless, higher-quality DVD videos, and LaCie is excited to be continuously pushing forward in the realm of DVD entertainment,” said Salem Tirane, LaCie product manager. “The introduction of double-layer recording takes digital entertainment to the next level. With it, consumers will drop entire music libraries onto a single disc. The professional tool Developed to accommodate digital content and multimedia professionals as well as home users and video enthusiasts, LaCie d2 DL DVD±RW Drives with new double layer technology feature a slender, stylish design, and are created from ZAMAC, a sturdy metal alloy that dissipates heat to prolong drive performance. Encased in LaCie’s d2 design, these drives can be placed horizontaly on the desktop or configured in standard 19-inch racks with an optional rack-mounting kit. A separate desk rack enables efficient stacking of up to four drives on the desktop, with a nearby storage bay to organize media.
Availability LaCie d2 DL DVD±RW Drives will be available in June 2004 through a network of authorized resellers, specialist stores and mail order partners at SRP prices beginning at £139 excl VAT. Drives with FireWire and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 interfaces ship with recording software for Windows and Macintosh operating systems, including Roxio Easy Media Creator 7 and Toast 6.0 for CD/DVD recording and double layer DVD recording. Includes video editing, DVD authoring and DVD playback software from Roxio. Through LaCie’s exclusive offer, LaCie d2 DL DVD±RW Drives are also available with Roxio Toast 6.0 Titanium software or CaptyDVD 2.0 software for Macintosh users.
