Owl, by Kurt

Kurt used a humble Panasonic Lumix DMC-TZ5 compact camera to capture this very handsome owl. I especially like the vignette that sees this owl's portrait emerge from the darkness that surrounds it. It's an interesting pose, too, with a cocked head. I could be picky and say that one of the biggest assets, photographically, of an owl would be its eyes, and here they are not lit ideally, but I do feel there is enough in the rest of the image to make it a worthwhile POTD. Kurt does concede my observation: "Yes, unfortunately the brighter eye with a nice catch-light is only partially visible and the owl's left eye is in shadow.
Such is life, ruddy owls always hanging about in the dark!
I did try lightening it up in Photoshop, but to me it then looked artificial, and I prefer this version."
