aif75 (real name Alan) is our chosen photographer for today's picture of the day. Alan is from Scotland and has re-trained as a photographer as part of a new career direction. When I spotted this photo in Alan's gallery a while back I commented that it was destined to be a POTD and so it has. I like the bleached-out setting, which helps the eye focus on the subject with out distraction. The spider itself is of course very dramatic. I can't quite pin any specifics, but overall this is a very satisfying spidy shot!

We are always on the look out for great pictures posted to the user-galleries here on DPNow. POTDs are selected from the gallery and featured every week day. The gallery facility here is completely free; all you need to do is register as a user on our discussion forum and you will get an automatic 25MB of space, which is good for around 125 pictures uploaded at web resolution, about 200K per picture.
