andyelliott and great photos of birds of prey practically go hand in hand and here's another example. This mono capture of a snowy owl has so many points of merit. I like the choice of black and white, especially the inky black background that places the owl in its nocturnal setting. The bright and contrasty illumination has the feel of moonlight on a clear night. The owl is beautifully sharp and yet the wing to the right of the frame as viewed has some motion blur that lifts the picture out of the sterility of a totally frozen composition - there is some evidence action to give the image purpose.
