The Kalahari, by Wild Images

We have featured a number great African wildlife shots from Wild Images here on the DPNow.com Picture of the Day. So this picture is a departure from what we normally see from this photographer; a landscape view with a dramatic skyscape. The only 'wildlife' we can see is an abandoned truck. The red soil is almost as striking as the superbly defined clouds against the rich blue sky. It's tempting to suggest that with such abundant material at one's fingertips in the Kalahari Desert that shots like these must be easy. I don't believe a word of that!

We are always on the look out for great pictures posted to the user-galleries here on DPNow. POTDs are selected from the gallery and featured every week day. The gallery facility here is completely free; all you need to do is register as a user on our discussion forum and you will get an automatic 25MB of space, which is good for around 125 pictures uploaded at web resolution, about 200K per picture. At the time of writing we had almost 16,000 pictures on the galleries and it's well worth a browse.
