The DPNow Picture of the Day is back today from its break and today we feature a scene photographed by a relative newcomer to the site: kevrev, who will be one of 20 or so people featured this month during weekdays as pictures of the day. DPNow readers like you will then decide which picture of the day becomes Picture of the Month, earning the top photographer an Amazon voucher.
S0, what do I like about today's picture? Well, it's a sunset - and it's hard not to achieve a pleasing result with a sunset. On the other hand they can be samey and clichéd. This sunset benefits from an interesting scene, with the boats and a rippling tide. Above the headland is a very dramatic sky. It's always interesting to know a bit more about the picture and although we simply know that the scene comes from Baltimore, which is on the extreme southern coast of Ireland, thankfully there is some exif metadata preserved in the photo. A Fujifilm FinePix S2 Pro DSLR was used and the picture was taken back in August 2003. POTDs don't have to be technically perfect - the picture is what counts - but in today's picture I do feel that the horizon isn't quite straight, leaning to the right a bit. Apart from that, this is a picture to be proud of.
