Advanced Olympus E-1 Studio software makes its debut
A new, more sophisticated version of the Olympus Studio software is now available. This latest release permits faster processing of RAW image files and an online upgrade of the Olympus E-1 digital SLR camera’s firmware.
Both the Olympus Studio and Olympus Viewer software, which were developed especially for use with the Olympus E-System, feature applications designed specifically for the day-to-day needs of a professional photographer. One of the highlights is a virtual light box, which works very much like a standard light box used with film photography. The key difference is that after the images have been checked, coloured sort marks may be applied.
Copying images from the camera to PC, organising files, viewing single images, browsing through folders or printing pictures is very straightforward. The software also offers individual or batch editing of images; RAW image files can be developed and converted to TIFF or JPEG files in batch mode.
Additionally, the Olympus Studio software allows the control of the camera via a PC. This enables the photographer to set all the camera’s controls using the software while simultaneously viewing the picture to be taken on the computer monitor. Once the shutter is released, the finished image can be saved directly onto the PC’s hard drive.
Hassle-free firmware upgrade
Olympus has recently announced a firmware upgrade for the E-1. Through Olympus Studio version 1.1 or later, the new firmware can be installed with ease. The user simply needs to connect to the Internet, open the software help menu and choose the upgrade option (the upgrade is possible through both Windows and Macintosh computers).
