Discover Suffolk’s secret coast through a lens
An inspirational landscape to any photographer, budding or professional - the wild and remote Orford Ness National Nature Reserve is a world of stark contrasts. This year the National Trust is introducing photographic tours of the property, enabling you to capture a part of it.
Desolate and yet fascinating, beautiful and yet mysterious, the National Trust’s Orford Ness National Nature Reserve is an alien landscape. However, to visitors with an interest in photography, it’s a treasure trove - remnants of old military buildings rise above the horizon, making a dramatic statement in the surrounding landscape, which is home to internationally rare species.
For many years, the Ness has been a popular destination with photographers and this year there will be the opportunity to book your place on a new tour, tailored specifically for those with a passion for photography. Due to the fragile and potentially hazardous nature of the site, visitors are required to keep to designated routes. However, this guided tour will take you beyond the beaten track and up close to the unique Cold War structures that dominate the skyline.
Throughout the day you will be accompanied by National Trust wardens from the site and a professional photographer who has been photographing the coastal property for many years. Their combined experience and knowledge will help you get the most out of the day, by offering historic knowledge of the site along with creative and technical advice.
Forthcoming photographic tours will take place on Saturday 3 and 17 October, from 9am to 5pm. In the event of bad weather the tour will be transferred to a different date. To find out more or to book your place, call today on 01394 450900, places are limited. Tickets are £60 (£50 for National Trust members).
