Totally Wild Photography Competition Winners Announced
Last year, keen photographers were invited to enter the Totally Wild Photographic competition by submitting photographs of animals taken at either Howletts or Port Lympne Wild Animal Parks.
This week, professional photographers Dave Rolfe and Vic Sharratt set about the task of selecting the winners. The pair unanimously chose Martin Eldridge’s eye-catching photograph entitled “Silverback” depicting a gorilla sitting amongst the trees as the overall victor. Commented Vic Sharratt:
“This is a great study of a silverback; pin sharp, good colour and composition.” Martin’s prize is a VIP trip around Port Lympne accompanied by professional photographer, Dave Rolfe, who will pass on tips and techniques.
Joint runners-up David Batchelor with a beautiful portrait of a tiger and Nicholas Godsell, who caught a rare moment of two western lowland gorillas fighting, will enjoy a VIP trip around Port Lympne with Vic Sharratt who highly commended both photographers:
“David has worked his magic to give the viewer an interesting image of quality and Nicholas’s shot has captured movement and action with one animal in the air! We would both like to have got that shot ourselves!”
The under 16’s category was won by Jessica Wright, aged 13 who had presented an excellent study of a giraffe browsing on foliage as if at home on the savannas of Africa rather than the chalk downs of Kent. Deservedly, she will spend the day alongside an animal keeper at Port Lympne Wild Animal Park.

“We didn’t realise how popular the photo gallery and our photographic competition would be and we are delighted with the response.
