Enfield Camera Club proudly presents "A Mayan Journey" by Anne Johnson and John Wallington on Thursday 12th February.
The illustrated slide talk is called "A Mayan Journey". It will be given by Anne Johnson and the slides were taken by John Wallington. It covers that part of and the Yucatan peninsular of that was occupied by the Mayans from around 250 BC until the arrival of the Spanish Conquistadores in the 16th Century.
Anne and John spend a lot of their time travelling and enjoy bringing some of those experiences back in the form of illustrated talks.
Anne and John say: “We will first show some of the famous Mayan ruins and also some of the less well known ruins still hidden in dense tropical forest. We will then explore the heritage left by the Spaniards in the colonial towns and churches. Finally we will concentrate on the culture and customs as enjoyed by the present day descendents of the Mayans and the Spanish.”
John has been a member of Enfield camera Club since 1990 and is currently Hon Treasurer and the Programme Secretary. Anne has been a member for nearly as long and also serves on the Committee.
