Release Issued by Sanyo:
SANYO launches new waterproof digital movie camera
WATFORD, 3 June 2008…SANYO, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of consumer electronics, has launched a new waterproof*1 digital movie camera, model Xacti VPC-CA8. Building on the success of the SANYO Xacti VPC-CA65, the new VPC-CA8 has the added ability of a ‘Face Chaser’ function and 8-megapixel CMOS sensor.
Like its predecessor, the SANYO Xacti CA8 can record video at 60fps with MPEG-4 AVCH/H.264 compression and also sports a 2.5” TFT LCD screen and 5x optical zoom lens. The CA8 is JIS IPX5 and IPX8 certified, which means that it can be fully submerged underwater at depths of up to 1.5m and for up to an hour at a time.
Compact and lightweight, the SANYO Xacti CA8 is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket – making it the perfect ‘go anywhere’ camera. With its familiar Xacti vertical ‘pistol grip’ body, the CA8 has been designed for convenient one-handed operation and one-thumb control of its key functions – ideal for outdoor activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, waterskiing or for taking to the beach or pool on holiday. Away from water, the versatile CA8 is perfect for use in a range of other leisure pursuits such as skiing, snowboarding, trekking and mountain biking.
“Last year, SANYO brought a digital movie camera to the market that was waterproof and changed the way that people use digital movie cameras,” says a SANYO spokesperson. “This year, we are pleased to introduce the next in the line-up, a continuation of both the waterproof and film anywhere concept, freeing people to choose where to use their camera instead of allowing the use or place to choose the camera for them. Anyone with an active lifestyle, including sports enthusiasts, outdoorsmen, or mothers will surely enjoy this camera.”
Available in a stylish metallic white, blue or orange finish, the CA8 includes a host of high performance features, maintaining SANYO’s growing position in the digital movie camera market.
High quality digital movies and easy web use
Video is recorded in the advanced MPEG-4 AVC/H.264 format encoding technology. This advanced compression delivers exceptional video clarity and detail while maintaining the smallest file size possible. Users can record up to one hour of video per gigabyte of available memory (TV-HQ mode) on a standard SD or SDHC memory card. SDHC cards up to a capacity of 32 gigabytes are supported.
The CA8 also features a web-use filming mode, which means that footage can be uploaded directly on the internet without needing to be converted – making it ideal for sharing footage on web-based applications and on popular social networking sites or podcasts.
Automatic ‘Face Chaser’ function for both movies and photos
The CA8 includes SANYO’s new “Face Chaser” function that automatically detects and isolates faces to assist the camera’s exposure and auto-focus. The CA8 is capable of detecting up to 12 independent faces at a time when used for still images and 6 faces when filming a video.
Capture still and video images simultaneously
While shooting digital movies, users can capture still images with a simple shutter press, achieving remarkable 8.0 MegaPixel still images and television quality VGA 30fps moving pictures simultaneously*2.
Sequential Photo Setting
Sequential photo setting lets you take up to 10*3 photos in rapid succession with a shutter speed of 5 frames per second (fps).
Advanced anti-shake control
The CA8 includes a Digital Image Stabilizer, providing optimal correction levels for camera handshake, which can occur when shooting long lengths of video. This operates effectively under any zoom setting, compensating for camera shake to produce a smoother and more natural result.
The SANYO Xacti VPC-CA8 will be available in the UK from the end of June 2008.
