Sanyo announce waterproof SANYO Xacti VPC-CA65
Release Issued by Sanyo:

Sanyo launches world’s first waterproof digital movie camera!

Watford, 19th June 2007…. SANYO, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of consumer electronics, has launched the world’s first1 waterproof2 digital movie camera. Following on from the successful splash-resistant SANYO Xacti VPC-CA6, the new VPC-CA65 can record DVD quality video and 6 MegaPixel stills underwater at depths of up to 1.5m and for up to an hour at a time. The CA65 is completely self-contained and requires no separate underwater housing.

Compact and lightweight, the SANYO Xacti CA65 is small enough to fit into a shirt pocket – making it the perfect ‘go anywhere’ camera. With its familiar Xacti vertical ‘pistol grip’ body, the CA65 has been designed for convenient one-handed operation and one-thumb control of its key functions – ideal for outdoor activities such as swimming, surfing, snorkeling, waterskiing or for taking to the beach or pool on holiday. Away from water, the versatile CA65 is perfect for use in a range of other leisure pursuits such as skiing, snowboarding, trekking and mountain biking. The CA65 is also perfectly suited to all other everyday activities.

“More than just the world’s first waterproof camcorder, the SANYO Xacti CA65 is really four cameras in one,” says a spokesperson from SANYO. “It’s both a video and still camera above water and a video and still camera below water. SANYO has created a stunning, exceptionally versatile camcorder that can be used virtually everywhere – including at the beach, in the pool and in rain or snow – while providing the high level of video and still image performance that today’s consumers demand. The CA65 makes it fun and easy to record life’s special moments spontaneously both in and out of the water.”

Available in a stylish metallic white finish, the CA65 includes a host of high performance features, maintaining SANYO’s growing position in the digital movie camera market.

MPEG-4 digital movies or 6 MegaPixel still images…you decide!
The SANYO Xacti CA65 records MPEG-4 - DVD quality videos at 30 fps (640 x 480 resolution) as well as 6 MegaPixel still images to an SD media card. Featuring next-generation Advanced Video Codec H.264 (MPEG-4 AVC/H.264) video compression technology, the CA65 delivers a significant 25% reduction in video file size, along with improved video quality against traditional MPEG-4 recordings. The camera can capture up to 10 hours of continuous video recording when used with a 8GB SD media card (not supplied) or over 1 hour when used with a 1GB media card (VGA: 640 x 480 - MPEG-4 video). The CA65 captures videos at a smooth 30 frames per second, with exceptional quality AAC-LC stereo sound.

Once recorded, both video and still images can be easily uploaded and viewed on a PC/Mac or personal media player and the CA65 is also ideal for sharing footage on web-based applications and on popular social networking sites and podcasts.

Capture still and video images simultaneously!
While shooting digital movies, users can capture still images with a simple shutter press, achieving remarkable 6.0 MegaPixel still images and television quality VGA 30fps moving pictures simultaneously3.

High quality images even in low light conditions
Improved 9 pixel-mixing technology allows video to be shot even in darker places, such as indoors during a party. When using the “Automatic” setting, subjects may be recorded in light as low as 7 lux, and when using the “Lamp Mode” setting found in the “Scene Select” function menu, the frame rate will be automatically adjusted, enabling subjects to be recorded even in 2 lux low-light environments.

Advanced anti-shake control
The CA65 includes a Digital Image Stabilizer, providing optimal correction levels for camera handshake, which can occur when shooting long lengths of video. This operates effectively under any zoom setting, compensating for camera shake to produce a smoother and more natural result.

Adobe software included
The included CD-ROM Software Pack features Adobe Premiere Elements 3.0 for Windows XP/Vista, Adobe Photoshop Album starter edition, QuickTime 7.1, iTunes 7.1 and Xacti Screen Capture for Windows.

The SANYO Xacti VPC-CA65 will be available in the UK from the end of June 2007.
