LONDON, (November, 2003) – LaCie, a leading producer of storage devices for the content development industry, today announced it is shipping a new generation of the award-winning Data Bank holding up to 40GB of data. In this new generation, we have doubled the capacity, but not the size. Designed by the famous Austrian agency Porsche Design GmbH, this 1.8” ultra-mobile hard drive comes with a sleek, ingot-shaped magnesium design. To date, the LaCie Data Bank has received a number of distinguished international awards for design - the Good Design Award of the Japan Industrial Design Promotion Organization, Italy’s SMAU Industrial Design Award, Germany’s Red Dot Design Award and the Macworld San Francisco 2003 Best of Show award.
Our most compact hard disk ever, the LaCie Data Bank offers generous storage capacity in a device that is barely larger than a credit card and thinner than a mobile phone. Measuring only 13mm high and weighing less than 4.5 ounces (125g), the LaCie Data Bank pairs unprecedented mobile convenience with exceptional technology – ideal for transporting up to 40GB of data while fitting in a small pocket.

Equipped with both USB 2.0 and FireWire ports or a USB 2.0 single interface, the Data Bank offers true plug and play connectivity, without the need for driver or software installation for Windows XP and Mac OS X users. Powered by the USB or FireWire bus, this drive can operate without an AC adapter. Delivering fast transfer rates of over 480Mbits/s using Hi-Speed USB connection, this drive is perfect for backup and archival of digital video, photos, songs and office data.
