Say cheese with Olympus Smile Shot
Hamburg, September 2007 – Smiles are infectious, seductive and a sign of happiness. But they can also be fleeting. Until now, capturing a smile at just the right instant was a serious challenge. Until now, that is, because Smile Shot from Olympus has solved the problem. Five new models feature this new scene mode that works with integrated Face Detection Technology to identify people in an image and then waits until they smile before taking a photo. Automatically, perfectly focused and exposed, and at precisely the right moment.
Five models from the current range of Olympus cameras include the new Smile Shot scene mode: the creative SP-560 UZ, the stylish µ 820 and µ 1200 models, and the entry level FE-280 and FE-300. Smile Shot is an extension of intelligent Face Detection Technology. It identifies people in the frame and automatically focuses on their faces while at the same time optimising exposure settings. But the real magic begins when the subject of the portrait starts to smile: Smile Shot detects changes in facial expression and immediately shoots a sequence of three images. These five Olympus models are able to capture smiles at extremely high speed at the exact moment in which they are at their best. This guarantees warm and cheerful memories of friends and family. Smile shot is also extremely practical when taking photographs with self-timer: now there’s no rush to position yourself in a scene – the camera takes its cue from your smiling face!
In addition to integrated Face Detection Technology and Smile Shot, the µ 1200 and µ 820 models include extra features designed to keep the mood up. “Face Focus” highlights the face against a blurred background, while “Funny Face” creates humorous distortions of the face and is sure to provide viewers with a laugh.
