Sony D-SLR Lens Range Increases with Three New Zooms

Sony introduces three new lenses

  • Versatile, high performance standard zoom DT 16-105mm F3.5‑5.6
  • Ultra high magnification zoom DT 18-250mm F3.5-6.3
  • Compact, affordable telephoto zoom DT 55-200mm F4‑5.6

    A choice of new high-quality lenses expands the exciting creative possibilities of the α 700 and the complete α digital SLR camera system.

    Three new models include a versatile standard zoom, a high magnification zoom and an easy-to-carry telephoto zoom offering superb performance and value for money.

    There’s now a wide range of more than twenty quality optics compatible with the Sony α digital SLR camera system, including G-Series and Carl Zeiss® lenses to satisfy the most demanding photo enthusiast. The complete α line-up ranges from super-wide angle, macro and zoom lenses to specialist Smooth Trans Focus and reflex super telephoto models.

    A premium G-Series telephoto zoom is also in development, further increasing the choice of quality optics for the discerning photographer seeking uncompromised performance and functionality.
    DT 16-105mm F3.5-5.6 (SAL 16105)
    Supplied as standard with the DSLR-α 700 P kit, this new standard zoom offers a 35mm equivalent focal range of 24-157.5mm Designed specifically for optimum performance with APS-C type sensors, this versatile standard zoom delivers high image quality at all focal lengths from very wide angle to medium telephoto.

    The extremely compact design incorporates one ED (Extra-low Dispersion) glass lens element plus two glass aspherical lens elements to suppress chromatic aberration and assure excellent contrast across the zoom range.  3-step lens barrel technology enables a compact, lightweight lens design with a 6.6x magnification range.

    This powerful zoom lens boasts a 14x range for outstanding versatility. Offering a 35mm equivalent focal range of 27–375mm, it represents an excellent all-in-one APS-C imaging solution with minimised size and weight, plus a high close up capability up to 0.29x magnification.  It’s the ideal lens for travelling photographers seeking a wide telephoto range from a single lens.

    70-300mm F4.5-5.6G SSM (SAL70300G) – In development
    Currently in development, a new G-Series telephoto zoom lens offers a 35mm equivalent focal range of 105–450mm. High-grade G-Series optics are complemented by an extremely quiet, responsive SSM (Super Sonic wave Motor) drive system for fast, accurate autofocus. With superb contrast across the entire zoom range and a minimum focusing distance of only 1.2m, it’s equally suited to portraits and sports photography.
