Vulnerability in Adobe Photoshop could, in theory, enable a malicious hacker take over your PC
A PC security expert has apparently demonstrated how recent versions of Adobe Photoshop can be exploited in such a way that a PC could be taken over by a malicious hacker. The story was covered on
CNet last week.
The vulnerability exists in both Photoshop CS2 and the newly-launched CS3 version, according to the report. Specially prepared bitmap image files targetting these versions of Photoshop aim to cause a buffer overload when they are opened and this creates a viable environment for a hacker to seize control of your PC.
It is stressed that there have been no documented instances of such a malicious attack, but now that the security vulnerability has been identified, Adobe is now investigating it and will advise its customers appropriately.
