Fujifilm Showcases Latest Advances To Pioneering Frontier Line

Release Issued by Fujifilm:

Frontier 550, 570 Offer “Prints in Minutes” – Fujifilm’s Fastest and Most Compact Yet

PMA 2005, Orlando, FL, February 19, 2005 – Fuji Photo Film U.S.A., Inc., a leading provider of imaging products and services, proudly announces the introduction of the Frontier 550 and Frontier 570 digital lab systems at PMA 2005. These additions to the respected Frontier product line offer the fastest processing capacity yet.

Fujifilm’s new Frontier 550 digital lab systems delivers up to 1,200 prints per hour and the Frontier 570 digital lab system delivers up to 1,800 prints per hour -- the highest-ever processing speeds and the smallest footprint yet (a mere 13 ft2) from a Frontier digital lab system. Maximum capacity of the Frontier 570 printer processor is 2,040 prints per hour as when printing multiples of a single negative or digital file. Its dry-to-dry processing time is surprisingly fast – as little as 1 minutes and 22 seconds, which brings total processing time for a single order of 24 prints (4R) down to as little as 2 minutes and 24 seconds. This Prints in Minutes performance is made possible through the combination of the advanced processing technologies of these labs when used with Fujifilm’s new Crystal Archive Paper Type II and Fujifilm’s CP-49E Chemical System, a new chemical system that guarantees time-saving efficiency through its simple, clean and safe one-touch chemical mixing feature. Frontier Manager, Fujifilm’s unique lab management system, also improves operator workflow and maximizes output capabilities, supporting Prints in Minutes service.

“These two new Frontiers represent a quantum leap for customer retail service,” said Gael Lundeen, Vice President and General Manager, Photofinishing and Web Services Division, Fujifilm Imaging Group. “Instead of one-hour or same-day service, Fujifilm’s customers will now be able to process consumers’ film or digital media within minutes.”

The Frontier Series has become very well known around the world for the extremely high quality of prints it produces from both analog and digital sources, and for its wide variety of digital services. The Frontier 550 and 570 represent a new generation of Frontier, delivering the highest-ever processing speeds by a Frontier digital lab system – but also delivering on the promise of image quality – boasting both advanced image enhancement and improved print resolution. The Frontier 550 and Frontier 570 also incorporates the latest advances in Fujifilm’s Image Intelligence™, which is an integration of all the image analysis, evaluation and processing know-how Fujifilm has
amassed over many years.

Other features include:
 Re-engineered high-speed, high-precision scanner and high-speed conveyor belt along with highly efficient multi-path chemical processing system and a fast, yet energy-efficient drying system for greater productivity.
 Optimized energy-consumption profile yielding savings of up to 50% in energy-saving mode (as compared to Frontier 375).
 Continuous self-diagnostic routines during ordinary operation.
 Intuitive, icon-based, operations system user-interface with context-specific help.
 12-inch double paper magazine with newly engineered mechanism to minimize paper loss.
 The first Frontier digital lab systems to produce 12-inch-wide prints (Maximum print size: 12x18 inches.).
 Printer processor footprint is a mere 13 ft2 – substantially smaller than that of the Frontier 375.
 The output unit’s three-sided maintenance achieves a 40% reduction in installation space (including maintenance space) compared to the LP2000 output unit.
 Automatic scratch and dust elimination through Fujifilm’s proprietary Image Intelligence ™
 Optional automatic red-eye correction through Fujifilm’s proprietary Image Intelligence ™, eliminating the need to perform manual red-eye correction and reducing operator time.

About Fujifilm Image Intelligence ™
The culmination of more than 70 years of photographic expertise, Fujifilm’s Image Intelligence™ is driving the ease, convenience and potential applications of emerging digital imaging technology. Fujifilm engineers were responsible for many early digital imaging innovations in the photographic, graphic arts and medical imaging markets. While each industry applies digital technology differently, each requires the same precision and “true to life” reproduction of an image. Fujifilm scientists have spent decades researching digital image hardware and software processing technologies in pursuit of enhancing images for consumers and business partners.

The combination of advances in the “computer vision field” with the experience and expertise of Fujifilm engineers led to several industry innovations, including the Fujifilm Frontier digital lab system.

Image Intelligence™ technologies include:
 Scene Classification. Precise, software-based image recognition and classification algorithms allow for the optimization of images, regardless of subject matter, such as human figures, daytime landscapes, evening landscapes and nightscapes, as well as high-contrast photos when the object is exposed by flash.
 Face Detection. Software automatically identifies key facial elements, allowing red eye correction (when used in conjunction with red eye detection technology), portrait cropping, adjustment of skin tone (for optimized photo ID images) and other applications.
 Face Recognition. Technology can also detect and identify individual human faces, enabling consumer and business imaging applications to sort and categorize large volumes of digital images quickly. This technology also supports applications in the fast-growing market for biometric security systems.

Fujifilm will be showcasing the full portfolio of photo imaging products and services in its booth at PMA (#3508). For more information, go to www.fujifilm.com/pma.
