There has been a furious debate in some quarters in recent months regarding the pros and cons of the different memory card formats that are fighting for buyers’ attention.
As far as we know, the storage drive and media specialist, Imation, is the first peripheral supplier to rise above the argument and bring out a single product that makes your USB-equipped PC compatible with all five leading memory card types: Compact Flash, SmartMedia, Sony Memory Stick, Multimedia Card (MMC) and Secure Digital (SD).
That product is the Imation FlashGO! The design is so simple we wonder why we haven’t seen it sooner. Although we haven’t seen one to hand yet and it’s not due to ship in the UK until November, the product appears to be a USB/Compact Flash (Types I & II, including Microdrive) reader supplied with all the necessary adapters for SmartMedia, MMC, SD and Memory Stick in a single kit.
Expected price is going to be around £60, which represents a considerable saving on the sum of all the dedicated alternatives you could buy.
