Max Spielmann embraces Win XP

Photo retailers, Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann Photo Prints, have announced support for the Microsoft Windows XP Online Printing Wizard

Windows XP, launched last week (click here), partially automates the process of downloading photos from a camera or scanner and uploading them to an online service for sharing and printing via a third party service. Jessops has landed the advantage of being the default local photofinisher you will be presented with in UK versions of Windows XP. However, if you prefer Max Spielmann service, you can now select that instead.

If you choose Max Spielmann printing, Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann Photo Prints receive your print order through a secure internet ordering process and the finished prints are sent back to you by post. Eventually, you will also be able collect your prints the following day from one of 600 Klick Photopoint high street shops.

The companies point out that a key factor that has held back digital camera adoption in some quarters has been the inability of consumers to get high-quality photo prints quickly and easily from their digital cameras.

They say: “Using solutions provided by Reading-based ShareAPhoto Limited, Klick Photopoint and Max Spielmann Photo Prints aim to solve this problem and bring the satisfaction of saving and sharing memories through photo prints to the digital camera user on the high street.”

Sandy Kennedy, Business Development Director, comments: “We are closing the circle for the digital camera user by offering a solution whereby the digital experience yields the same result as the traditional film experience: enjoying the captured moment on professionally printed photo paper.”

DPN note: In our experience, the high street situation is not quite as bleak as implied. In our home town of Hemel Hempstead we know of at least three high street photo finishers that offer a same-day digital photo printing service, accepting images on floppy disk, memory card and CD ROM. Our advice is that if you like the service of your local photofinisher - ask them about digital services.
