Photodex Corporation, which publishes CompuPic and CompuPic Pro digital content manager software packages, has released version 6 of these titles. The company competes against comparable products like ACDSee and ThumbsPlus, both powerful solutions for managing large collections of digital images.

Photodex says its version 6.0 release is the most substantial  since version 1.0.  We’re told improvements include more speed - some  400% faster at thumbnailing than the previous 5.3 version,  video thumbnailing, full Zip archive format support, a completely redesigned interface and other features such as auto image correction.

4X faster

According to Photodex benchmark tests, CompuPic 6.0 is more than four times faster than CompuPic 5.3, three times faster than ACDSee 4.0, and eight times faster than ThumbsPlus 4.5.

Zip support

File format support has been increased to over 70 formats, including Zip support, with more formats in development. The completely redesigned interface allows overlapping windows and it’s customisable too.

Paul Schmidt, Photodex's CEO, comments: "With our speed enhancements, video thumbnailing, and the full Zip support, CompuPic is a real product for real people. Hundreds of the new features in CompuPic come from user feedback. Anyone using a digital camera, scanner, or storage device, such as media cards, for images will save vast amounts of time using the CompuPic family of digital content managers" said

The new features will be added to Photodex's unique professional software package called the Photodex Picture CDT, which helps retail photo labs and professional photographers create Picture CDs from 35mm, APS and slides.

CompuPic and CompuPic Pro are available for download as 30-day free trials from www.photodex.com. The CompuPic street price is US$49.95 and CompuPic Pro is US$99.95. These prices include one year of free upgrades.
