Still time to win HP’s £6,000 photo prize

Hewlett-Packard and online photography magazine ePHOTOzine are currently running the HP Invision Digital Photography Awards 2002 - a national student photography competition that aims to put the latest technology in the hands of the UK's rising photographic stars.

If you’d like to enter the competition, you’ll need to get your skates on as the deadline for submissions is 12th November.

Running for its second consecutive year, the competition is open to any student studying photography at university level across the UK. Entrants will have the chance to win HP's latest digital imaging products including a high quality digital camera, the latest cutting edge photographic printer, a high-speed scanner, PC and CD Writer worth around £6,000 (US$10,000) for themselves and their college.

The UK winner will then automatically be entered into the international HP Invision Digital Photography Awards 2002 to compete against the best photography students from across Europe and beyond.

"HP Invision Digital Photography Awards demonstrates HP's commitment to providing high quality digital imaging products for anyone from amateurs to professionals," explained Shabnum Rajput, HP UK image capture category manager. "It also gives the students a chance to broaden their digital photography experience and have the chance to meet and learn from internationally renowned photographers like Platon."

Platon will be the senior judge on the international HP Invision Digital Photography Awards 2002 panel. In 1992 he received British Vogue's Best Up-and-Coming Photographer award when he was a photography student and his client list includes Vogue, Vanity Fair, Nike and Levis.

The international competition will require the UK winner to create 12 photographs on three defined themes using the HP digital imaging kit they won. The themes will be My City, Inspiration and Buy Me! The winner will be named HP Invision Digital Photographer of the Year 2002 and win a further US$5,000.
