Epson UK has launched a 2 megapixel digicam that the company says is stylish, fun and easy to use. As you can see (left) the PhotoPC 2100Z certainly looks different.
While the 2100Z has a 2.3MP sensor, Epson incorporates HyPict interpolation to enable a picture file of 3.1MP to be generated. One unusual feature of the 2100Z is a ‘nightscape’ mode for picture taking in near dark conditions. As with the more expensive 3MP PhotoPC 3100Z and an increasing number of third party cameras, the 2100Z supports Epson’s PIM (print image matching) standard for preserving picture information as the data is sent to a PIM compatible printer.
A zoom lens is provided, but we’re not given the conventional optical zoom rating. Instead the arrangement is described as a seamless 5x optical-digital zoom. Compact Flash memory cards are supported and an 8MB card is included.
The Epson PhotoPC 2100Z is priced £359.
