Affordability is clearly the marketing battle cry that heralds the entry of the latest Olympus digicam, the Camedia C-200 Zoom. At £349.99 inc.VAT its price doesn’t appear to sacrifice much in the way of features in the highly competitive 2.1 megapixel domain.
There is a 3x optical zoom (35-105mm equivalent), plus 3x digital zoom, manual and auto white balance control, plus +/- 2EV exposure override. The C-200 also has a video clip feature and a panorama mode for use with image stitching software supplied with the camera. An integral pop-up flash has six modes tuned for particular scene types.
One area where cost cutting is seems to be evident is in the battery arrangement. C-200 Zoom owners will have to make do with four AA batteries rather than a standard rechargeable unit. An 8MB SmartMedia card is supplied.
Our understanding is that the C-200 will be available imminently.
