Umax has released details of two new high performance scanners in its PowerLook range.

The PowerLook 1000 packs a staggered CCD sensor array to deliver an optical 2400x2400 maximum resolution. The whole A4 flat bed scanning area can be used for film scanning as well as document and photo scanning. Its film holders have an auto-detect feature accommodating the more popular film formats.

The PowerLook 1120 is an update of the existing PowerLook 1100 model. It offers 1200x2400 optical resolution, film scanning area is up to 10x8 inches in area and is supplied with film holder masks upto 5x4 inches. Electronics modifications are claimed to have improved scanning dynamic range performance from 3.4D to 3.7D.

Both models are equipped with Firewire (IEEE 1394) interfaces as a high throughput alternative to the relatively slow USB1.1 option. The 1120 has two Firewire ports and no USB port.

The scanners are supplied with different software packages aimed at specific kinds of users; Graphic, Pro and Photo. The Photo package is supplied with Silverfast 5.5, which is particularly effective at colour negative reproduction.

Check out Umax’s official press releases (PowerLook 1000, PowerLook 1120) which contain some more detailed specifications.
