Olympus UK says rumours will be answered on Photokina press day

Following reports (click here) in a Dutch magazine that Olympus is to unveil a new digital SLR camera system, at next month’s Photokina, there has been increasing pre-show fervour on selected Internet news groups and Web sites. DP-Now has also received a fair amount of email on the subject as well. Apparently, Olympus is even listed by the show organisers as a digital SLR system exhibitor.

To further fan the flames of interest, this afternoon Olympus UK made a considered (it took the best part of the day to approve) statement to DP-Now to the effect that all will be revealed on 24th September at 1PM. That’s Photokina press day, and the time is when Olympus holds its show press conference.

On the one hand, this is a less than stunning revelation. But it’s unusual for a statement like this to be issued in the first place.

Once again, DP-Now must emphasise that there has been no private briefing - we have no firm evidence, official or otherwise, to substantiate the present rumours. However, the ‘body language’ that is coming across from Olympus appears to us to be saying: ‘we have big messages to convey on the 24th’.

Exactly what those messages are, well - you’ll have to wait until Tuesday, 24th September. DP-Now will be at that press conference and we’ll do our best get the news on-line as quickly as possible.
