Entry-level waterproof digital compact camera for worry-free outdoor shooting

PENTAX RICOH IMAGING UK LTD is pleased to announce the launch of the PENTAX WG-10 digital compact camera. Developed as an entry-level model of the heavy-duty PENTAX WG series, the WG-10 is designed to make outdoor and underwater shooting simple and worry-free for everyone.

Despite its compact, lightweight body, the WG-10 offers robust specifications which perform brilliantly under demanding outdoor conditions. The camera is waterproof to 10 metres and able to function at this depth for up to two hours of continuous operation, its shock resistant build protects it against falls from up to 1.5 metres and it is cold resistant against temperatures as low as –10°C.

The WG-10 also features a host of advanced, creative functions, such as the PENTAX-original Digital Microscope mode that magnifies the subject, allowing users to capture microscopic details often not apparent to the naked eye.

The WG-10 is suitable for all types of photography, whether it be for outdoor shooting or everyday snapshots.

Major Features

1. Heavy-duty construction for underwater shooting to a depth of 10 metres, and up to two hours continuous use

The WG-10's airtight body is not only waterproof to 10 metres and operable at this depth for up to two hours of continuous use (equivalent to IPX8 or JIS Class 8 waterproof performance), but it is also shock-resistant*, dustproof**, cold-resistant***, and crushproof**** ensuring it performs superbly and dependably in harsh, demanding outdoor conditions.

2. Digital Microscope mode for microscopic observation

The WG-10 features an innovative Digital Microscope mode, which magnifies the subject on the LCD monitor for observation and photography of a microscopic subject.

Thanks to five LED Macro Lights positioned around the circumference of the lens, the subject is better lit than in ambient light which allows for macro shooting. In order to minimise camera shake and subject shake, its instant illumination function enables a higher shutter speed by automatically raising the brightness of the Macro Lights at the moment of shutter release.

A macro stand is also included as standard in order to maintain a minimum focussing distance of one centimetre from the subject during extended observation and shooting.

3. High-quality images made possible by the latest super-resolution technology

In addition to super-high resolution images achieved by approximately 14.0 effective megapixels and a state-of-the-art imaging engine, the WG-10 offers advanced image processing functions using the latest technology to deliver sharp images, even when enlarged.

4. HD movie recording

The WG-10's HD movie recording function captures high-quality movies (1280 x 720 pixels, 16:9 proportions, 30 frames per second) with ease. It also offers a variety of movie editing functions, such as capturing a still image from movie data, and inserting titles at the beginning and end of a movie clip. Additionally, a micro-HDMI terminal (Type D) is provided on the camera body for simultaneous output of HD movie clips and sound to external devices.

5. Large, 2.7-inch LCD monitor

The WG-10 comes equipped with a large, 2.7-inch colour LCD monitor with horizontally extended 16:9 proportions and approximately 230,000 dots. The PENTAX-original AR (Anti-Reflection) coating minimizes annoying glare and reflections to give a sharp, clear on-screen image even under harsh sunshine.

6. 5X optical zoom lens with 28mm wide-angle coverage

Within its compact body, the WG-10 features a five-times optical zoom lens with coverage from 5mm to 25mm (equivalent to approx. 28mm wide angle to approx. 140mm medium telephoto in the 35mm format). This versatile zoom lens comes in handy for a wide variety of scenes and subjects, from wide-angle snapshots of beautiful scenery, to group shots and telephoto images.

7. Triple anti-shake protection to counter different types of shake

(1)Pixel Track SR mechanism
When recording still images, this sophisticated shake-reduction mechanism effectively compensates for camera shake by digitally processing affected images.

(2)Digital SR mode*
When the camera detects low-lighting conditions in still-image shooting, it automatically raises the sensitivity as high as ISO 6400, allowing the use of a higher shutter speed in order to minimise the adverse effects of camera shake and subject shake in poor light.

(3)Movie SR mode**
During movie recording, this digital shake-reduction mode effectively compensates for the misalignment of images caused by camera shake to produce beautiful, blur-free movies.

* When this mode is selected, the recorded size is fixed at 5.0 megapixels (2592 x 1944 pixels).
** When this mode is selected, the angle of view becomes narrower than normal shooting.

• Image viewing, editing and filing software included: MediaImpression 3.6.1LE (Windows version compatible with Windows 8) and MediaImpression 2.2LE (Macintosh version compatible with Mac OS X 10.8)
• Compatibility with Eye-Fi wireless LAN SD memory cards
