Photokina 2012: Leica expanded its ‘Leica à la carte’ programme

Leica X2 ‘à la carte’: the ultimate bespoke style statement

The world’s only digital compact camera personalisation programme available for Leica’s high-performance X2 camera for the first time

Photokina, Cologne, 17 September 2012: Leica Camera AG has expanded its ‘Leica à la carte’ programme – the company’s special camera personalisation service – to offer a selection of different styling options for the Leica X2. The service will be available from the end of October 2012. First offered in 2004 for Leica’s 35mm rangefinder film cameras, the Leica à la carte programme allows customers to choose from the multitude of finishes and features available at the Leica factory in Germany, enabling them to configure their own, uniquely customised Leica camera.

The Leica à la carte programme offers a choice of three different camera body colours for the Leica X2. In addition to the two current models in discreet black and elegant silver, the X2 is now also available in an exclusive, titanium-coloured, anodised finish. The colour and texture of the camera’s leather covering can be selected in a further step of the personalisation process. The range includes a collection of ten different leather trim options, with a diverse choice of colours, from a subtle black saddle-leather to full-grain cowhide in rich, eye-catching shades such as green, blue or aztec beige.

The portfolio also includes striking variations embossed with lizard-style or ostrich-style patterns. In addition to this, cameras can be embellished to order with a personalised engraving on the flash cover or the top plate (front or back). These options ensure that each Leica X à la carte model is absolutely unique. The customer can also choose from a selection of optional accessories in matching materials, such as a leather carrying strap or camera protector case.

The range of leather trim options can be viewed on the Leica Camera web site at www.leica-camera.co.uk. After configuration, orders for personalised Leica X à la carte cameras can be placed with the Leica Store Mayfair, London, where customers can view samples and colour swatches that illustrate the options offered by the programme.

The technical specifications of the Leica X2 à la carte replicate those of the current X2 model. For example, the X2 features an APS-C format, professional CMOS image sensor with 16.5 megapixels (effective 16.2 MP). Combined with the high-performance Leica Elmarit 24 mm f/2.8 ASPH. lens – a classic focal length for photojournalism – this sensor ensures maximum image quality.

The camera’s profile is complemented by numerous setting options from full manual control to automatic functions and intuitive, userfriendly handling. All this, together with its elegant and stylish design, makes the Leica X2 the ideal premium-class compact camera for discerning photographers who wish to concentrate completely on their subjects, and who appreciate creative and true-to-life pictures.

An extensive range of optional accessories is also available to allow the Leica X2 to be adapted to each photographer’s individual photographic style. These include a high-resolution Visoflex electronic viewfinder with 1.4 megapixels and a 90° rotation function, an optical bright-line viewfinder and a handgrip for safer and steadier handling of the camera.

Pricing and availability
The Leica X2 à la carte programme is scheduled to be available in the UK from October 2012.
