Women are the new smart snappers
~ girls on film have gone digital ~
The new generation of digital photographers is funky, feisty and female. According to digital photofinisher BONUSPRINT, the number of digital print orders from women has doubled since the launch of its online photo processing service in 2002.
This statistic highlights the fact that women are now becoming more active digital photography users. BONUSPRINT predicts that the gender split for digital photo processing will level out at 50:50 in the next two years as digital cameras become the ‘conventional’ method of photography.
"This goes to show that female digital camera owners think further than just getting the latest gadget. Digital cameras are great fun, but who has the time to spend and money to burn to print out all their photos on an ink-jet printer? The increase in our female customer base proves that women have realised the cost savings that can be made by using a professional photofinisher for their digital pictures," said Anthony Ward, managing director of BONUSPRINT.
"The majority of orders first came from male early adopters – which tends to be the norm when a new technology hits the stores. However, the convenience of sending your images online in a matter of seconds, and receiving them in the post a few days later has appealed to women. Why faff around with home printing, or spend hours queuing in a High Street processor when your photos are just a click of a mouse away?"
