Pacific Image Electronics Launches High-Resolution Film Scanner With Quality And Workflow Optimization Features For Mini-Labs
Value-priced film scanner provides mini-labs with easy handling of 35-mm high-res files and a wide range of image enhancement features
Torrance, CA, February 11, 2004...Pacific Image Electronics Inc. announces the PrimeFilm 3650LAB, a high-performance 35 mm film scanner with features specifically chosen to facilitate both quality and workflow in the mini- lab.
The PF3650LAB is designed to provide fast scan-times and photo indexing for workflow optimization. Professional-level features such as 16-bit A/D conversion, 3600 dpi optical resolution, and 3.4 dynamic range give the mini-lab the edge in providing its customers with the best quality product. Digital ICE3TM, the industry's preferred image enhancement tool, is incorporated to allow the mini-lab to produce high-quality digital reproductions of the original photographs.
Fast Scan Times Boost Productivity
An IEEE1394 interface included with the PF3650LAB allows the user to scan an entire 36-frame strip of 35mm film in as little as 450 seconds (7 minutes 30 seconds) at 1200 dpi, or in 594 seconds (9 minutes 54 seconds) at 1800 dpi to boost productivity in the mini-lab. A USB 2.0 interface is included with the PF3650LAB, as well.
The PF3650LAB is equipped with a built-in auto focus mechanism that automatically adjusts the focus whenever the film is not positioned at the most desirable distance from the scanner. This step is performed before pre-scanning, which assures the most accurate scans possible. Manual focus is also provided as an option.
The straight-line transportation device allows the mini-lab user to scan consecutively up to 40 frames at a time without using an external film holder. The fast, continuous batch-scanning feature will extensively improve overall workflow.
PhotoIndex software is bundled with the PF3650LAB, adding the ability to print out a photo index contact sheet from a 36-exposure roll of 35mm film.
The PF3650LAB operates at 3600dpi optical resolution, which produces a digital image (internal scan depth) of approximately 17.9 million pixels (3,456 X 5,184) offering optimal clarity. 16-bit A/D conversion allows the film scanner the most accurate color reproduction and color grading at a 3.4 dynamic range, retaining the subtlest details in the highlight and shadow area of the scanned image. A white and infrared LED array light source is used, versus a CCFL (cold cathode florescent light) to assure consistent and exact color conformity in scans.
World Class Image Enhancement Software Bundled with PF3650LAB
Kodak Austin Development Center (ASF )'s Digital ICE3TM, which includes Digital ICE, Digital ROC and Digital GEM, is an important feature of the PF3650LAB. Digital ICE3TM allows the user to digitally clean, correct and restore film images to optimize the image quality. Digital ICE3TM is the industry's preferred software for dust and defect removal, color restoration and noise or grain reduction in digital images.
The unit, which is lightweight (4.6 pounds) and measures 9.37" x 4.05" x 6.96", connects via IEEE 1394 or USB 2.0 port, back-end support for USB 1.1, to any Windows 98, Windows Me, Windows 2000, Windows XP or Power Mac G3 or later system.
Set-up is a snap, with easy-to-install scanning software and drivers.
The PF3650LAB launches at an MSRP of $999.99.
