New ‘optically controlled’ nano layer, re-designed base and full compatibility with the latest inkjet printers

Marly, Switzerland, 18 September, 2008 – ILFORD announces a step change in coating technology with the launch of the new GALERIE Smooth Pearl and Smooth Gloss roll products at this year’s Photokina in Cologne, Germany.

Engineered to meet the needs of the most demanding professional photographers and the latest wide format printers, both media finishes incorporate a number of evolutions in digital imaging technology:

• New ‘Optically controlled’, nano technology coating allows stunning images to be printed from the latest pigment inks - ILFORD scientists have fully explored the imaging possibilities of nano particles and re-optimised the coated layer to get the best possible results from wide-format, aqueous inkjet printers. The new layer is more transparent which reduces light scatter to give cleaner highlights, deeper shadows, more open mid-tones and improved sharpness.
• New base that provides the optimum balance of weight, flexibility and opacity - The new base features more compacted fibres that give a greater opacity and flexibility for the same overall paper weight of 290gsm. This new base will transport easily through all current inkjet printers’ capabilities whilst retaining the feel of a true photographic paper. The base also has a cleaner, more natural white tint, presenting a superb canvas for the image.
• Full printer compatibility - The new media has a colour gamut that will fully exploit the benefits of the latest wide-format, aqueous inkjet printers such as Canon, HP and Epson, which feature additional colour inksets. The user will see more vibrant prints with a real richness of colour as well as a subtle separation of mid-tones. This media is, therefore, fully capable of exploiting the performance of such printers while remaining compatible with future technological developments.
• As with all GALERIE media, the new Smooth Gloss and Pearl products will have optimised ICC profiles available from www.ilford.com
