Prestigious award for Scottish Press Association photographer
18th April 2008 – Scottish Press Association photographer, Andrew Milligan was named News Photographer of the Year at the 29th Scottish Press Awards. Andrew, who is based in Central Scotland, impressed judges with his image of schoolgirl Vicky Hamilton's father being restrained as Peter Tobin left court after being charged with her murder.
They also liked his amusing shot of a young Highland cow in the snow and his photograph of First Minister Alex Salmond holding a thistle at a polling station in Ellon, Aberdeenshire, on the day of the Scottish Parliament elections on May 3 last year.
Milligan said:
"I'm delighted to have won this award. It is a real honour and I am pleased the judges liked the photos."
The winners of the Scottish Press Awards were announced at a ceremony in Glasgow.
Group Picture Editor, Martin Keene said:
"It's great to see the work of our photographers being recognised again at the very highest level. This is Andrew’s third award this year.”
