Release Issued by Locr:
locr: With new maps beyond the horizon
Now www.locr.com is the worldwide only photo geotagging site
offering users the free choice of maps: by now there are
Microsoft® Virtual Earth™, Yahoo! Maps and Google Earth™
Brunswick, 6th December 2007 – Geotagging is the new trend of digital
photography. Since the start of the year the locr community has been
offering everything needed to tag photos with geodata: free GPS
software, free web space, community features and organizational
functions. Now locr is opening up a number of totally new horizons:
thanks to the integrated free selection of online maps, users can now
decide which map from which provider they want to see
accompanying each photo. Visitors are now free to choose between
Google Earth™, Microsoft® Virtual Earth™ and Yahoo! Maps.
In the standard view the user sees the inserted photo, the place where it
was taken within map, aerial and satellite images. In addition locr shows a
summary of other photos near to the photo location and the postal
address, key words and comments. As a special service, locr also
automatically provides relevant descriptions of the locality from Wikipedia
and the site’s own database. Users can choose whether to make their
photos visible just to family and friends or publicly to all visitors at
www.locr.com. They can also add comments and reviews.
In order to offer viewers an even greater convenience, locr is now
supplementing the standard view with two further major mapping services.
In addition to Google Maps™, users can now also work with Microsoft®
Virtual Earth™ and Yahoo! Maps. Switching the map provider in the photo
view is now as easy as it can be: it works with just a single click. As the
quality and coverage of electronic maps often varies by region or country,
users can thus select for each individual picture the map or view that
shows the surrounding area in the greatest detail.
locr users can now also benefit from the differing options provided by the
three online services, with the bird’s eye view and 3D function of
Microsoft® Virtual Earth™, for instance, presenting the location
photographed from an overhead perspective and a variety of angles.
By providing this free choice, locr is opening up new horizons and offering
users an extraordinary view of the world.
